About
836 Broadway ave.
This station is located in our home town of Des Moines NM. I had tried to purchase this building years ago. The previous owner was holding out for a higher sales price.
We were out gallivanting around the west, camping our way across the states for over a month. While we were gone a driver on the highway fell asleep at the wheel, veered off the highway, clipped the main support of the awning roof bringing the awning down. The car then drug the support along the side of the building taking out the far corner as well before flipping the vehicle in the lot just west of the building. Luckily the driver was able to walk away un-injured. The building was damaged extensively. Many times this is the end for a structure like this as no one is willing to put the time and resource into restoring it. This is just where I like to come in! SOLD! The previous owner was no longer interested in keeping it.
"Art Gallery"
Looks like a gallery…. right?
After the vehicle took out the support for the awning it drug it down the side of the building before knocking the corner out of the building.
The narrowest portion of the building housed the restrooms previously. We tore these out and opened up a couple original doorways.
Interior shots of the Shop portion of the building.
This is a good view of the design of the building. The 3 main service doors will be replaced with commercial glazing in the center and full view glass roll up service doors.
This section of the building was left with out a clear purpose, when the building was cut in half length ways in order to make way for the expanding highway frontage.
"Lights On"
This was fun, first time the lights had been on in this building in for at least the 15 years since I have seen it.
The design of this building has changed a couple times through the years. The original stone building was built and then sawn in half lengthwise when the highway was widened. At that time, in order to maintain a shop space they framed in and built the far end and added service doors. These doors will be replaced with full glass roll up service doors, similar to original.
This facade was added in order to give the building a look of similar dimension when they cut it down. It was leaning pretty good so we straightened it up with the help of some equipment.
Glad to see the surf blue getting covered up. We re-stuccoed the exterior to cover some of the cracks and freshen up the texture.
"repurposed wall"
The start of the wall that was once the awning roof outside.
If you are going to make some canvases….. make them big… no bigger…. yeah like that.
"oceans.... 4" ? ha
Not sure but those guys in the middle look like they can paint!
Cash in deep thought and artistic expression.
